Trump Welcomes Relatives of Injured Guard Personnel to White House
President Trump stated on the weekend that he has invited the family of a National Guard member fatally shot last week to come to the executive mansion.
He mentioned that he conversed with her family and they were “devastated”.
Background on the Devastating Shooting
US army specialist Sarah Beckstrom, twenty years old, was fatally shot in a attack on Wednesday in Washington DC.
Her comrade, US air force staff Sgt Andrew Wolfe, 24, is still in the hospital in critical condition.
Vigils across the state have taken place in their honor.
Presidential Invitation
The commander-in-chief explained he’s proposed a visit to the White House for the families of both soldiers of the state Guard.
“I stated: ‘When you’re ready, because that’s a hard experience, visit the White House. We’re going to pay tribute to her,” the president told reporters. “And in the same way with Andrew, recover or not.”
Community Support
Mourners came together over the past few days at the high school in the state to remember Sarah.
Both the soldiers had been working with the military unit as part of Trump’s federal initiative to assist public safety in Washington DC.
Honoring Sarah Beckstrom
“Sarah was the type of pupil that educators wished for. She behaved with inner fortitude, a warm expression and a positive energy that lifted people around her,” the principal, the head of Beckstrom’s former high school, informed the press. “She was sweet, caring and always ready to assist people.”
Memorial details for Sarah are in the process of planning.
Legal Measures and Policy Revisions
Law enforcement have indicted a twenty-nine-year-old individual from Afghanistan with a charge of homicide and charges of attempted murder while carrying a weapon.
The incident prompted the government to halt refugee claims and cease providing entry permits to holders of travel documents.
Condition of Andrew Wolfe
The airman, a native of the city, enlisted in early 2019 and is a graduate of his local high school, per the news agency.
He remains under medical supervision and is “fighting for his life”, the state’s governor Patrick Morrisey said on a news program.
Attorney general Pam Bondi stated on the program that she planned to meet with his relatives.
Legacy of Beckstrom
Sarah, from Summersville, graduated from Webster County high school in 2023 and joined the military shortly after, serving as a law enforcement officer with distinction, according to the state guard.
“She had a lot of goodness and she definitely had fortitude,” Morrisey addressed the crowd at the memorial. “Though her time ended too soon, she has created a legacy that’s going to last forever.”
