The Red Devils Set to Sign Germany Striker Lea Schüller away from the Bavarian Giants

Manchester United are on the verge of sealing the deal for prolific Germany striker Lea Schüller on a permanent transfer from the Frauen-Bundesliga champions.

A Marquee Acquisition for United

The forward, with half a year remaining on her deal, is known as a prolific goalscorer for her club and the national team. She has netted over 100 goals for Bayern and found the net 54 times in 82 appearances for her country. Her arrival is viewed as a major coup for the WSL side.

Departure from Munich has been anticipated since she appeared to be fighting back tears while thanking the club's fans following a victory over Bayer Leverkusen recently.

Reports in late December that the German women's top flight was losing one of its leading forwards. Per multiple sources, the formalities for the move have now been completed.

Consistent Goal Threat to Strengthen United's Attack

The experienced striker's arrival is expected to provide a major uplift to the team's attacking options. Schüller has been highly consistent in front of goal in the Bundesliga.

  • Over seven consecutive seasons, up to and including the most recent campaign, she achieved at least a double-figures tally of league goals.
  • She won the top scorer award in the 2021-22 season with 16 goals.

Gathering Momentum at Old Trafford

The acquisition of the German international coincides with a period when United appear to be gathering momentum.

Recent performances include securing a place in the European knockout phase playoffs as a seeded team and a win in the Conti Cup quarter-finals.

In the transfer market, the mid-season window has brought additional business:

  1. The signing of Swedish right-back Hanna Lundkvist on a multi-year deal.
  2. The contract extension for Japan playmaker Hinata Miyazawa, a fan favourite since joining in 2023.

On Miyazawa’s new deal, a senior figure stated: “She has become a vital component to the way we play. Her understanding of the game and skill allows her and the team to control and dictate play from central areas.”

The new defender, having arrived from a club in the NWSL, said: “You can sense how much they [United] have progressed in the last few years, competing in one of the most competitive leagues in the world and performing in the Champions League.”
