The network's Premier New Show of 2025 Secures a Substantial Extension for an Additional Two Seasons.

Last October, Adult Swim debuted a new season of its offbeat hit, Smiling Friends. But, later that same month, the channel launched a completely new animated series with a strikingly different feel. Haha, You Clowns was heartwarming and calm, evoking a animated take of a laid-back talk show. During a period often characterized by cynicism, this show's wholesomeness found an audience and helped it become a surprise hit.

A Major Commitment

On December 18th, the network revealed exciting news: Haha, You Clowns has been picked up for a further two seasons. This provides showrunner Joe Cappa significant creative freedom to further explore the world of the Campbell family. The series focuses on three respectful teenage brothers whose primary trait is their strong bond for their single father, with Cappa providing the voices for all four key characters.

"I am incredibly thankful to the fans of the show who took a chance on the show and helped it grow," said Cappa. "I am overjoyed that I get to continue exploring the Campbell household for the foreseeable future."

A President's Endorsement

In the same announcement commendation from Adult Swim president Michael Ouweleen, who called the series as "profoundly sincere and oddly captivating." He specifically highlighted the fans who found the show and advocated for its peculiarly charming sensibility.

"All of you showed up for this new show, rooted for it on social media, and grew it week over week so we could approve not one, but two more seasons," said Ouweleen. "To quote: 'You are strong! You are loved!'"

A Different Kind of Comedy

Earlier this fall, Haha, You Clowns was praised as "a gentle counterpart" to other adult animated fare. It offers something deeply soothing about observing this endearing family go about their everyday routines.

In earlier interviews, creator Joe Cappa stated his hope to evolve comedy past its long-running layer of irony. He attributed this trend to the rise of certain blockbuster franchises.

“There's this level of irony that we keep returning to,” said Cappa. “It's like we have to know we’re the cleverest viewer in the room when we're watching stuff. I feel like we've been doing this for 10 years, and we just have to laugh at something different now. It's time for comedy to grow.”

Future Seasons

Given this two-season order, with Haha, You Clowns set to continue, Cappa could potentially help usher in that comedic shift. Or at the very least, the renewal ensures audiences a little more time to enjoy the warm glow of the unique Campbell clan.

The season 1 finale of Haha, You Clowns is scheduled to air on December 21st. The entire series is available for streaming on HBO Max.
