The Israeli Premier League local clash involving one local team and Hapoel Tel Aviv was called off prior to commencement on the weekend, following what law enforcement characterized as "public disorder and serious disturbances".

"Dozens of smoke devices and fireworks were set off," Israeli police posted on digital channels, emphasizing "this cannot be considered a sporting event, this is disorder and major hostilities".

A dozen people and three police personnel were injured, police said, while nine people were detained and 16 held for interrogation.

The clashes occur just a short time after officials in the UK stated that Maccabi Tel Aviv fans ought to be banned to attend the Europa League match at Aston Villa in the UK the following month because of security issues.

The local club criticised the game abandonment, claiming authorities of "preparing for a war, not a sporting event", particularly during discussions in the preparation to the eagerly-awaited match.

"The alarming incidents around the venue and due to the ill-considered and unacceptable judgment to abandon the game only demonstrate that the Israel Police has assumed command over the game," the team stated officially.

Their rivals has not yet commented, except to confirm the fixture was abandoned.

The ruling by security authorities to ban the team's supporters from the Birmingham game on November 6 has triggered extensive disapproval.

The British authorities has subsequently stated it is seeking to cancel the prohibition and considering what further support might be required to guarantee the game can be hosted safely.

Villa told their stadium staff that they did not have to work at the game, stating they understood that some "could be worried".

On Thursday, law enforcement stated it supported the ban and classified the match as "potentially dangerous" according to intelligence and previous incidents.

That encompassed "violent clashes and discrimination incidents" involving Ajax and Maccabi Tel Aviv fans ahead of a game in Amsterdam in November 2024, when numerous persons were taken into custody.

There have been demonstrations at various athletic competitions regarding the war in Gaza, such as when the national team played Norway and Italy in current football World Cup qualifiers.
