Patrick Bamford Signs With Sheffield United After Leading Abusive Chants Targeting Coach Chris Wilder
The striker has joined the Championship side just seven months after leading derogatory taunts aimed at the team's coach, Chris Wilder.
This experienced forward, without a club since leaving Leeds United, has signed a contract joining the second-tier club in difficulty through the winter. His lengthy spell with Leeds concluded through agreement in August.
One of Bamford’s final notable acts as a Leeds player involved leading offensive chants regarding Chris Wilder amid Leeds' success festivities this spring. Currently, the one-cap England player is set to play for Wilder as the Blades’ manager seeks to lift the team he loves away from the relegation zone.
Previous History Between Bamford & the Manager
The pair had history before Leeds moved up to the Premier League the previous campaign while Sheffield United lost the promotion decider by Sunderland. Wilder called Bamford as a "muppet" back when the situation was different during the 2018-19 season and Sheffield United won direct promotion while Leeds fell short in the playoffs.
Reconciliation & Moving Forward
Everything appears has been resolved with United, the league's least productive attack, in desperate need of a boost in attack and Bamford looking to rejuvenate his career.
The Wilder chant gained traction in April. An apologetic Bamford and the Leeds manager, Daniel Farke, called Wilder the following day.
Chris Wilder said back then: “Had a conversation with Patrick recently and I’ve no issue whatsoever with that. I'm uncertain regarding the language from a fellow professional! But I valued and respected him giving me a call.
“We spent 20 minutes and the same again I spoke to Daniel Farke too and we had a half-hour chat together and he is a super guy, a class act. Back in my playing days we used to dish it out and take it and that’s an integral part of the game across all levels, including a Sunday morning. I have no problem at all. I'm fine with it and I told him that to Pat.”
Latest Playing Struggles
The forward featured in 18 appearances with Leeds United last season but the former Forest, Chelsea FC and Boro player has faced difficulties with injury in recent years.
